Belll introduces Remote PVR and Home Connect Kit

Bell TV is the first to launch the Remote PVR service in Canada. Bell TV Remote PVR is a TV enhancement which provides Bell TV subscribers with the ability to schedule and manage their PVR recordings on any Internet connected PC, Mac or eligible smartphone.

Remote PVR allows you to:

• Set recordings from anywhere using a computer or eligible Smartphone. 
• Browse and customize a comprehensive 9-day program guide.   
• View images and trailers of favourite shows and movies. 
• Quickly locate programs using a powerful and intuitive search feature. 
• Create a detailed personal profile to help Remote PVR find the content clients are looking for. 

By connecting your receiver to the Internet, you will get all of the features above, plus the ability to:

• Set recording priorities and manage conflicts. 
• Review all recordings on the PVR and delete selected recordings to make space. 
• Review and edit details for upcoming recordings. 
• Track PVR disk space. 

To access Remote PVR, you must:

1. Purchase an HD PVR (models 9242 or 9241).
2. Login to Bell TV Online with your My Bell account user name and password.
3. Access Remote PVR at  Bell TV Online (tvonline.bell.ca)
4. Have an Internet connected computer and/or eligible smartphone. 

There are two options to connect you receiver to the Internet:

1. Use and Ethernet cable if the receiver is relatively close to an Ethernet port.
2. If the receiver is far from an Ethernet port, purchase a Home connect kit.

Basic functionalities of Remote PVR will be available to all 9242/9241 subscribers, however to experience enhanced Remote PVR functionality, clients must connect their receiver to the Internet. To do so, they must have the following:  

Vancouver 2010 Olympics on Bell TV

Bell TV is offering clients a virtual front row seat to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games action. Clients can experience the Olympics in HD through 10 free Pay Per View (PPV) channels (5 High Definition (HD) and 5 Standard Definition (SD).

The channels will allow clients to watch live Olympic events and sports competitions, uninterrupted, with 5 commercial-free HD or SD channels.

The Olympic Home Channel will allow clients to view up to six video windows on one screen with live Olympic coverage from select Olympic channels, and scroll to the window of their choice to hear the audio, and press Select to tune to that Olympic event. This channel will contain both French and English channels   

The Olympic Hockey Multi Vu channel will allow clients to receive real-time alerts for power plays, goals and hat tricks, scroll over each game to hear the associated audio play-by-play commentary, and quickly tune to the game of their choice with the touch of a button.

Bell TV is introducing new channels to its line up, providing Bell TV clients with an enhanced TV experience. The new channels are as follows:

Teletoon Retro in French

Bell TV is now including Teletoon Retro French channel to its already rich French basic services and English/French networks, providing French clients the opportunity to go back in time and review their favourite cartoons.

AMC on free preview

Available November 11 at no extra cost to Bell TV clients who subscribe to the Premium Movies theme pack, AMC offers viewers hundreds of movies each month in addition to such compelling dramas as the multi award-winning Mad Men and The Prisoner, which makes its debut on November 15. The table below outlines the new channel details:

Bell TV is launching a free preview of the AMC channel.  All new and existing Bell TV subscribers will receive a free preview of the AMC channel, in addition to the Family Channel and Playhouse Disney channel, from November 11, 2009 until January 1, 2010.

Bell TV is introducing Golf Channel HD, on Channel 853, providing golf lovers an enhanced high definition viewing experience. This channel will support the network’s schedule with more than 2,100 hours of tournaments, original programming and news all available to Bell clients in HD. 

Until June 10, 2009, Bell TV is offering Golf Channel HD as a free preview for all Bell TV clients subscribing to “Sports 1” theme pack.

BellTV Introduces the 9241 HD PVR Receiver

The 9241 HD PVR receiver is an advanced MPEG-4/MPEG-2 model, which offers a dual-tuner, single TV, high-definition satellite receiver and integrated personal video recorder (PVR), capable of recording two live programs while watching a pre-recorded one.

Some of the 9241's features include:

• Built in PVR Capability, allows you to record up to 200 hours or standard programming or 30 hours of HD programming (or a combination of both).
• External Hard Drive capability, to record even more programs (SATA, 3.5”, 7,200 RPM recommended), using the receiver's USB 2.0 connection.
• HDMI 1.1 connectivity, which provides an interface between any compatible digital audio/video source, such as A/V receivers and a HDTVs. HDMI also supports multiple audio formats, from standard stereo to multi-channel surround-sound and two-way communication between the receiver and connected devices, enabling advanced functionality.
• Faster Access to Favorite Programs: Up to 3 hours and 9 channels of programs per screen through extended EPG options. Up to 9 days of programming content review available.
• Name-based Recording (NBR): Program recording based on the name, instead of the "usual" date and time of the program.
• Dual Tuner: Watch and record 2 programs simultaneously. Clients will now never miss their favorite shows again.
• Choice: Name-based recording feature (VuPass) offers option to record all episodes or new episodes automatically - clients can now set their favorite show to record one time only and get the whole season recorded!
• Home Plug Included: Home Plug allows the client to connect to an external router for internet access through the power connection that the receiver is plugged into.  At the router all they will need is a “Home Plug Connector” similar to “Sling-Link”.
• Future Proofing: The 9241 is capable of receiving both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 signals.  This means that as the future requires new signal transport systems this receiver will automatically be able to handle them.

Note: The 9241 does not include an off air antenna input or HDMI cables.

BellTV Introduces the 6131 HD Receiver

The future ready 6131 HD receiver is a significant leap forward in the client’s HD experience. The 6131 model is a high-definition (HD), single-tuner, single-TV satellite receiver that supports MPEG-4 and MPEG-2 compression technology.  This receiver is PVR Ready, which allows the connection of an external hard drive creating Personal Video Recorder (PVR) capability.

Some of the 6131's features include:

• PVR Capability which allows you to hook up an external hard drive (recommend SATA, 3.5”, 7,200 RPM) using the USB 2.0 connection, delivering 9-day EPG and all PVR functionality found with built in PVR models.

Interactive Super Channel

Super Channel is launching an interactive application exclusively for Bell TV clients. It consists of a programming guide and a PVR enhancement tool for Super Channel clients, and is free with the subscription to Super Channel. The application, available in English only, allows clients to browse and set up recordings for Super Channel content airing in the future.

Using Super Channel interactive is easy:

• The main landing page allows clients to see what the top eight shows are for the month, and access the time and date that the show is being aired.
• Tabs along the top of the screen will aid in navigation.
  • The ‘Theme’ tabs divide the content into categories, including Comedy, Drama, Thriller, Horror, Documentary, Science Fiction and more.
  • The ‘Details’ tabs, provides more information on a particular show.
  • The ‘Help’ tab provides information regarding the application itself, including tips on navigation and troubleshooting.

TLC HD now available

TLC HD is now available. TLC provides a programming that is both enlightening and entertaining. Clients will now enjoy their favourite shows like Little People, Big World, Date My House, Makeover Train, in the clarity of high definition.

Free Preview for 3 Months: TLC HD will be available as a free preview to all clients from December 10, 2008 to March 10, 2009.  After this period, it will be included in the “More HD Variety” theme pack.  Subscribers to this theme pack will receive TLC HD automatically at no extra charge.

With the addition of this chanel, BellTV now offers 71 HD channels!

Regional Hockey Packages now available

You can now watch local hockey games in standard or High Definition by purchasing a Regional Hockey Package from Bell TV. Regional packages are available for the following regions:

• Vancouver Canucks
• Edmonton Oilers
• Calgary Flames

Note: Existing clients who are currently subscribed to a Standard Definition package can simply upgrade to a High Definition package for an additional $20.00.   

HBO Canada

Bell TV launches TSN 2

Bell TV is enhancing its impressive comprehensive programming (over 500 channels) with the launch of TSN2 in both Standard and High Definition. TSN2 delivers more premium live sports programming while complementing TSN's already powerful live sports line-up. 

TSN2 highlights:

• More live sports: a total of more than 800 hours of live sports coverage, with an average of one exclusive live event/game per day, available only on TSN2.
• Encore telecasts of live TSN programming: encore performances of key sports events, which aired live earlier in the day on TSN.
  • Ex.: European-based sporting events which aired lived on TSN in the daytime, such as Champions League soccer and select IIHF games, will be repeated later in the day on TSN2.
• Better timeslots for western Canada: events and programming which aired in late afternoon/early-evening in eastern Canada on TSN can be repeated in western prime time on TSN2.

TSN2's full time roster features an exciting line-up of exclusive live games and events, including: NHL, CFL, NBA, Curling, International hockey, Golf, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, IndyCar Series, Grand Slam Tennis, Champions League Soccer, Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, and, NCAA Football and Basketball.

External 750Gb Hard Drive for the 9242 PVR

This External 750Gb Hard Drive is compatible with the 9242 HD PVR & 6131 (with PVR function enabled). It allows you to store up to an additional 750 hours of programming (SD), and is perfect if you don’t want to miss you favourite events in the upcoming Olympic Summer Games, despite the time zone difference.

The box consists of an external LaCie Hard Disk enclosure, a 750Gb hard drive, a USB 2.0 cable, power supply and quick install guide.

You can also use a 3rd party USB-2 external hard drive (EHD) with your 9242, as long as it meets the following requirements:

• 7200 RPM,
• Externally powered via an A/C power outlet,
• USB 2.0, and
• No Sleep Mode (Cannot power down when idle).

Note: The EHD can only be connected to one receiver. Bell TV does not support other options as they can lead to the receiver requiring EHD formatting.

Starting July 15, Shaw Direct is pleased to offer “Shaw Direct Weather”, an Interactive Weather Application to our customers! This application is available on all advanced receivers (DSR 207/209, DSR 317/319, DSR 505 and HD PVR530).

Shaw Direct Weather is a customizable interactive application providing 5 day forecasts from over 1,500 communities across Canada, the US and popular international destinations. Shaw Direct Weather is available on channel 397 and 739.

With so many Canadian communities covered, virtually everyone can find their own local weather any time they want, and check out weather forecasts from around the world!

Canal D HD at no extra cost

Shaw Direct has launched its 35th no extra cost HD channel - Canal D HD!

Canal D is a French network that provides programming guide on science, nature, movies, biographies, classic series and more. Viewers love it’s high-quality documentaries on current subjects like important societal issues, biographies, science, the paranormal, crime, drama, investigations and wildlife.

Canal D HD will be available to all high definition customers who subscribe to Canal D SD, have the Famille bundle or Tout-en-Francais.

Star Choice is now Shaw TV

Star Choice news: Star Choice is now known as Shaw TV. Don't worry, this doesn't change anything to the unparallelled service you've been receiving from Star Choice since 1997!

Watch US Superbowl commercials with Star Choice HD!

In 2009, Star Choice will be the only distributor in Canada to use Virtual Channel Override (VCO) technology, whereby individual receivers are controlled to conduct simultaneous substitution depending on their geographic location. As other satellite distributors do not have this technology, they must conduct simultaneous substitution at the uplink source directly over the satellite, meaning that all of their customers, regardless of their location, will have a Canadian HD signal substituted over the US HD signal.

Star Choice will NOT be conducting simultaneous substitution on the HD Super Bowl broadcast for viewers more than 50 miles away from Toronto.

Canadian viewers are often forced to watch local commercials when millions are spent on extravagant US Super Bowl ads. This year, Star Choice HD customers outside of Toronto who are viewing the Super Bowl on a US channel will see the game without Canadian commercials overriding the US commercials. This is just one other way that Star Choice is working to bring the best in HD to its customers across Canada.

Big Ten University Sports Channel only on Star Choice

It’s game time as Star Choice launches the Big Ten Network in Standard Definition (SD) on December 3, with its High Definition (HD) channel to follow December 16. Star Choice is the exclusive satellite provider of the Big Ten Network in Canada.

The Big Ten Network is dedicated to covering the Big Ten Conference and its 11 member institutions, including Michigan State University, Ohio State University, Purdue University and Pennsylvania State University. It provides access to collegiate athleticand academic programs, such as conference sports events including football, men’s and women’s basketball, NCAA-Sponsored sports, and Big Ten Championships; original programs in academics, the arts and sciences; campus activities; and associated personalities. Sports programming includes live coverage of events along with news, highlights and analysis, all complemented by hours of university-produced campus programming.

The Big Ten Network will be on free preview to all Star Choice customers throughout December.

HBO Canada joins Star Choice's Movie Package!

HBO Canada joins The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Movie Central (Western Canada) – at no extra cost. It is a multiplex channel that will deliver a full slate of HBO’s award-winning, boundary-pushing, genre-defining series, films, comedies and live events including more than 200 hours of new and never-before-seen programming.

Offered in both standard-definition and high-definition, HBO Canada will be home to new series and the latest seasons of signature HBO shows such as True Blood, Entourage, Big Love, Flight of the Conchords, In Treatment and Summer Heights High, all airing day-and-date with HBO in the U.S. It will also feature series such as Real Time with Bill Maher, Def Comedy Jam and Chris Rock: Kill the Messenger and live events such as concerts and sporting events such as boxing. HBO Canada will also air titles from the HBO library including OZ and Da Ali G Show, original movies Gia, The Late Shift and If These Walls Could Talk and comedy specials from the likes of Dane Cook, Tracey Ullman and Ellen Degeneres.

Three new HD Channels complement MONSTER NHL HD Lineup

NHL PPV HD (ch. 237): All Canucks, Flames and Oilers PPV games will now be offered in HD on our NHL PPV HD channel (237). Fans living in these viewing areas can by individual games or season packages. For more info, go to starchoice.com/nhlppv.

NHL Centre Ice HD (ch. 468): Adding to a third NHL Centre Ice HD channel (ch. 468) means that NHL Centre Ice subscribers will see well over 200 games in HD this season. It joins the no extra cost HD package as part of the NHL Centre Ice subscription - a great value for only $24.99 per month.

HD Sports 2 (267): HD Sports 2 (ch. 267) joins HD Sports 1 (ch. 266) as the destinations for all regional Sportsnet games available in HD. Plus, subscribers to Leafs TV will be excited to know all Leafs TV games broadcast in HD will be available on HD Sports 1 (266)
