International cricket council World Cup package

Bell TV is introducing a new cricket package programming, providing cricket fans additional entertainment for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup.

You can watch all the new 2009 games of the ICC World Cup, which includes a total of 27 series games, or you may choose an ‘À la carte’ package to enjoy the semi finals or the final game only.

Golf TV now available in HD!

Bell TV is introducing Golf Channel HD, on Channel 853, providing golf lovers an enhanced high definition viewing experience. This channel will support the network’s schedule with more than 2,100 hours of tournaments, original programming and news all available to Bell clients in HD. 

Until June 10, 2009, Bell TV is offering Golf Channel HD as a free preview for all Bell TV clients subscribing to “Sports 1” theme pack.

After the free preview period, Golf Channel HD will be included in the “More HD Sports” theme packages. Bell clients who subscribe to this theme package will get the Golf Channel HD automatically, at no extra charge.

MLB Extra Innings 2009

Bell TV launches the full 2009 season of the Major League Baseball (MLB) Extra Innings Premium Sports Package!

With more than 1,400 out-of-market games, including more than 500 in HD, baseball fans are getting full access to the hard-hitting, base-stealing regular season action. For the serious fan it’s the way to follow their favourite teams and players.

BellTV Introduces the 9241 HD PVR Receiver

The 9241 HD PVR receiver is an advanced MPEG-4/MPEG-2 model, which offers a dual-tuner, single TV, high-definition satellite receiver and integrated personal video recorder (PVR), capable of recording two live programs while watching a pre-recorded one.

Some of the 9241's features include:

• Built in PVR Capability, allows you to record up to 200 hours or standard programming or 30 hours of HD programming (or a combination of both).
• External Hard Drive capability, to record even more programs (SATA, 3.5”, 7,200 RPM recommended), using the receiver's USB 2.0 connection.
• HDMI 1.1 connectivity, which provides an interface between any compatible digital audio/video source, such as A/V receivers and a HDTVs. HDMI also supports multiple audio formats, from standard stereo to multi-channel surround-sound and two-way communication between the receiver and connected devices, enabling advanced functionality.

Interactive Super Channel

Super Channel is launching an interactive application exclusively for Bell TV clients. It consists of a programming guide and a PVR enhancement tool for Super Channel clients, and is free with the subscription to Super Channel. The application, available in English only, allows clients to browse and set up recordings for Super Channel content airing in the future.

Using Super Channel interactive is easy:

• The main landing page allows clients to see what the top eight shows are for the month, and access the time and date that the show is being aired.
• Tabs along the top of the screen will aid in navigation.
  • The ‘Theme’ tabs divide the content into categories, including Comedy, Drama, Thriller, Horror, Documentary, Science Fiction and more.
  • The ‘Details’ tabs, provides more information on a particular show.
  • The ‘Help’ tab provides information regarding the application itself, including tips on navigation and troubleshooting.

TLC HD now available

TLC HD is now available. TLC provides a programming that is both enlightening and entertaining. Clients will now enjoy their favourite shows like Little People, Big World, Date My House, Makeover Train, in the clarity of high definition.

Free Preview for 3 Months: TLC HD will be available as a free preview to all clients from December 10, 2008 to March 10, 2009.  After this period, it will be included in the “More HD Variety” theme pack.  Subscribers to this theme pack will receive TLC HD automatically at no extra charge.

With the addition of this chanel, BellTV now offers 71 HD channels!

Regional Hockey Packages now available

You can now watch local hockey games in standard or High Definition by purchasing a Regional Hockey Package from Bell TV. Regional packages are available for the following regions:

Bell TV is enhancing its impressive comprehensive programming (over 500 channels) with the launch of TSN2 in both Standard and High Definition. TSN2 delivers more premium live sports programming while complementing TSN's already powerful live sports line-up. 

TSN2 highlights:

• More live sports: a total of more than 800 hours of live sports coverage, with an average of one exclusive live event/game per day, available only on TSN2.
• Encore telecasts of live TSN programming: encore performances of key sports events, which aired live earlier in the day on TSN.
  • Ex.: European-based sporting events which aired lived on TSN in the daytime, such as Champions League soccer and select IIHF games, will be repeated later in the day on TSN2.
• Better timeslots for western Canada: events and programming which aired in late afternoon/early-evening in eastern Canada on TSN can be repeated in western prime time on TSN2.

TSN2's full time roster features an exciting line-up of exclusive live games and events, including: NHL, CFL, NBA, Curling, International hockey, Golf, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, IndyCar Series, Grand Slam Tennis, Champions League Soccer, Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, and, NCAA Football and Basketball.

Legacy Programming Price Increase - Oct 1st.

A price increase of $3 will come into effect for all existing Legacy programming clients as a result of programming, network, technology and resource upgrades. “Legacy” programming refers to clients who activated their service prior to October 4, 2004. This increase will affect approximately 320 000 clients who currently subscribe to a Legacy programming set.

If you are an old customer but you are subscribing to a new programming package, you are not affected by this price increase.

External 750Gb Hard Drive for the 9242 PVR

This External 750Gb Hard Drive is compatible with the 9242 HD PVR & 6131 (with PVR function enabled). It allows you to store up to an additional 750 hours of programming (SD), and is perfect if you don’t want to miss you favourite events in the upcoming Olympic Summer Games, despite the time zone difference.

The box consists of an external LaCie Hard Disk enclosure, a 750Gb hard drive, a USB 2.0 cable, power supply and quick install guide.

You can also use a 3rd party USB-2 external hard drive (EHD) with your 9242, as long as it meets the following requirements:

• 7200 RPM,
• Externally powered via an A/C power outlet,
• USB 2.0, and
• No Sleep Mode (Cannot power down when idle).

Note: The EHD can only be connected to one receiver. Bell TV does not support other options as they can lead to the receiver requiring EHD formatting.

Watch US Superbowl commercials with Star Choice HD!

In 2009, Star Choice will be the only distributor in Canada to use Virtual Channel Override (VCO) technology, whereby individual receivers are controlled to conduct simultaneous substitution depending on their geographic location. As other satellite distributors do not have this technology, they must conduct simultaneous substitution at the uplink source directly over the satellite, meaning that all of their customers, regardless of their location, will have a Canadian HD signal substituted over the US HD signal.

Star Choice will NOT be conducting simultaneous substitution on the HD Super Bowl broadcast for viewers more than 50 miles away from Toronto.

Canadian viewers are often forced to watch local commercials when millions are spent on extravagant US Super Bowl ads. This year, Star Choice HD customers outside of Toronto who are viewing the Super Bowl on a US channel will see the game without Canadian commercials overriding the US commercials. This is just one other way that Star Choice is working to bring the best in HD to its customers across Canada.

DSR 209 & 319 replaces DSR207 & 317

The Star Choice DSR209 and DSR319 replace the Star Choice DSR207 and DSR317 receivers. The DSR209 and the DSR319 are 8PSK capable which might be of use in the future for non-HD programming (i.e. International programming and other specialized channels).

Big Ten University Sports Channel only on Star Choice

It’s game time as Star Choice launches the Big Ten Network in Standard Definition (SD) on December 3, with its High Definition (HD) channel to follow December 16. Star Choice is the exclusive satellite provider of the Big Ten Network in Canada.

The Big Ten Network is dedicated to covering the Big Ten Conference and its 11 member institutions, including Michigan State University, Ohio State University, Purdue University and Pennsylvania State University. It provides access to collegiate athleticand academic programs, such as conference sports events including football, men’s and women’s basketball, NCAA-Sponsored sports, and Big Ten Championships; original programs in academics, the arts and sciences; campus activities; and associated personalities. Sports programming includes live coverage of events along with news, highlights and analysis, all complemented by hours of university-produced campus programming.

The Big Ten Network will be on free preview to all Star Choice customers throughout December.

HBO Canada joins Star Choice's Movie Package!

HBO Canada joins The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Movie Central (Western Canada) – at no extra cost. It is a multiplex channel that will deliver a full slate of HBO’s award-winning, boundary-pushing, genre-defining series, films, comedies and live events including more than 200 hours of new and never-before-seen programming.

Offered in both standard-definition and high-definition, HBO Canada will be home to new series and the latest seasons of signature HBO shows such as True Blood, Entourage, Big Love, Flight of the Conchords, In Treatment and Summer Heights High, all airing day-and-date with HBO in the U.S. It will also feature series such as Real Time with Bill Maher, Def Comedy Jam and Chris Rock: Kill the Messenger and live events such as concerts and sporting events such as boxing. HBO Canada will also air titles from the HBO library including OZ and Da Ali G Show, original movies Gia, The Late Shift and If These Walls Could Talk and comedy specials from the likes of Dane Cook, Tracey Ullman and Ellen Degeneres.

SuperChannel HD2 on Free Preview!

Starting October 30, 2008, Super Channel HD2 (Ch. 271), becomes the newest member of our No Extra Cost HD package and also joins the 4 standard definition channels of the Super Channel Package!

The free preview of Super Channel HD1 and Super Channel HD2 will be available until December 1, 2008 to all Star Choice customers with an HD receiver. Three new HD Channels complement MONSTER NHL HD Lineup

NHL Center Ice and NFL Sunday Ticket 08/09 season.

Effective July 16, 2008 Star Choice subscribers and new customers will be able to order NHL® Centre IceTM package for $24.99/month for the season.

By subscribing to NHL® Centre IceTM, customers are granted authorization to a block of "NHL" channels. When there is an out-of-market game being played, they will be able to view that game in the Centre Ice package. Non-Centre Ice subscribers will be restricted access to these channels. Local and regional hockey broadcasts will continue to be viewed on their normal channels by all subscribers. Customers that have a 921, 410, 411, 421B, or 421C, will need to purchase a new receiver.
