Line amplifier with 20dB gain.
The LNBF from a satellite dish provides a nominal gain (of approx. 55 to 65dB). When a very long coaxial cable line is used (over 150ft), a line amplifier can be used to compensate for the signal loss resulting from the long cable line.
The line amplifier uses power coming from the receiver to the LNBF (13V/18V) to amplify the signal.
Note: A line amplifier should only be used on a cable line in excess of 150ft and at least 25ft away from the LNBF to avoid signal saturation. A line amplifier will not help improve a bad signal resulting from an improper installation (under-sized antenna, miss-alignment, etc.)!
