Reset Procedures
You can always perform a SOFT RESET on your Shaw Direct receiver by holding the POWER button on the front panel of the receiver until the unit shuts off and performs a soft reset (takes about 1mn).
This will fix most Guide (EPG) related issues and other non-critical issues.
To perform a HARD RESET on the 205/305/315/401, follow this procedure:
- Confirm that you are getting a good signal.
(green dish logo on the front of the receiver or Option 6-3). - Press Option 6-7-7-8.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Turn on your receiver and set it to channel 284 for 1 minute.
- Set your receiver to channel 299 and call Shaw Direct for a rehit.
- You will have to call Shaw Direct for a rehit, so only do this procedure if all else fails.
This should reset all functions, including your authorization status.
To perform a HARD RESET on the 207/317/500HD/505HD/530HD, follow this procedure:
- Set the receiver to channel 299.
- Option 6-4-9-8-8-6.

Provider ID
If you are in Option 6-1-3 and you would like to confirm that you are on the correct signal (Shaw Direct on Anik F1), enter the Provider ID "4128". This should yield a green confirmation with the "A4" satellite ID
DSSR530 Reset/Troubleshooting Procedure
If your DSR530 is acting up, try the following procedure to get rid of any software/bad data on the hard disk problems:
- Make sure there is at least 6" of clearance above the DSR530 as it requires more ventilation space than a regular receiver. Enclosed cabinets, etc. may not give it enough space to ventilate properly.
- Unplug the AC power cord from the back of the receiver then, disconnect both cables coming from the satellite dish (there are 2 cables). Leave all three cables disconnected for 2 or 3 minutes.
- Connect the satellite cables first (it does not matter which goes where as long as they are both connected to the satellite inputs of the receiver) and re-connect the AC power cable.
- Give the unit 5 to 10minutes to boot. Go to menu 6-4, then hit 9-8-8 to access a hidden menu. Select 6 to perform a Master Reset and opt to erase the hard drive content as well.
- It may take 5 to 10mn for the unit to come back online. At this point, you will need to contact Shaw Direct or your dealer for a REHIT to re-activate the main tuner. Once the main tuner is re-activated, the Trip Counter in Option 6-4-3-3 should show a positive number (3, 5, 7, etc.).
- You can wait a couple of minutes and perform the following action to re-activate the second tuner: Go to channel 299 (you should already be there) and hit RECORD to record 1 minute of the preview channel. After 1 minute, hit STOP and go to Options 5 to Delete the recording. Now go to Options 6-4-7 to confirm that you are getting a Signal and Ebno signal for Tuners 1 and 2 (prior to doing this, only Tuner 1 will show a signal and Ebno value).
To activate the second tuner after a master reset and a rehit:
- From channel 299, go to channel 300
- Hit RECORD.
- As the channel is being recorded (you will see the "red" clock on the front of the unit), go to channel 299.
- After 2mn, go to OPTIONS 9 (DVR Events) and STOP the recording.
- Leave the recording on the hard disk for at least 24 to 48hrs (before deleting it).
- Go to Options 6-4-7.
- You should get comparable signal and level for tuners 1 and 2.
Locating F1/F2 with a Free-to-Air receiver
If you are or if your installer is more familiar with Free-to-Air reception, here's something you can do to locate Anik F1 and Anik F2 on the Shaw Direct elliptical dish: Use an FTA receiver to lock on some of the few Mpeg-2 DVB carriers present on Anik F1 or Anik F2. Using the Shaw Direct elliptical dish (60cm or 75cm):
- Set 22KHz to "0" on your FTA receiver if you are trying to lock on Anik F1 Mpeg-2 DVB carriers.
- Set 22KHz to "22Khz/On" on your FTA receiver if you are trying to lock on Anik F2 Mpeg-2 DVB carriers.
- The L/O should be set to 10750 (Standard on most FTA receivers).
- You can use any of the outputs of the Quad LNBF (they're all the same).
Here are some of the Mpeg-2 DVB frequencies available on Anik F1 and Anik F2:
