Additional information:
Performance: Ping times are on average 800ms. This is due to the distance between geostationary satellites and the Earth (35,000km). Higher upload speeds are available based on your service level, but ping times will not change.
Public and non-public IP addresses: A non-public IP address is an address in the form of "192.168.0.x". This type of address can only be accessed from within your local area network and computers or routers with such an address can not be accessed from the outside (but you can access anything you want on the internet). A public IP address is an address in the form of 66.201.x.x. This type of address can be accessed from the outside to remote-login to your computer or to establish a virtual tunnel (VPN) and other specialized connections.
For most applications, a public IP is not required (browsing, emailing, FTP, chat, etc.). A public IP is required for some VPN applications, to connect to your computer/server from another location or to connect a router behind the HughesNet router. Note that even with a public IP, some VPN systems may not work on HughesNet. Contact us if you intend to use a VPN system with HughesNet prior to ordering your system.
Installation: Cost depends on location (geographical) and type of installation (flat root, inclined roof, wall, post, etc.). Note that you MUST have a clear line of sight to the South in order to install your HughesNet 2-Way high speed internet system.
Initial activation: Residential / Commercial / Government (all new clients): $75 one time fee. (waived on 2 or 3 year contract)
Industry Canada Licensing fee: none
Early termination fee: $400 for any service terminated prior to the end of the 24 month term.
Vacation mode / suspension of service: Not available.
Gaming: Due to the nature of internet via satellite (higher ping times of over 700ms due to the distance of the satellites from the Earth), Hughes Net is not recommended for online games that require low ping times (<150ms for example). HughesNet is highly recommended for all other residential and business applications.
Fair Access Policy: In order to use HughesNet's 2-way high speed internet service, you must agree to its fair access policy.
System Requirements: The HN7000S series models do not require anything other than an Ethernet port on your computer, but an outdated computer will affect the performance you get from the internet!
